The word of God is here to change you, to mould you and to make you the kind of person that God wants you to be.

Don’t allow the Book of the Law of the Lord to depart from your mouth. It is the only book by which we will be judged. Make sure it never departs from your mouth. Many have a lot of bibles in their homes but do not understand what is written in those bibles. You will be judged by what is in your bible. You cannot stand before Jesus and say “I never knew of this scripture”. It is in the bible in your hand.

Christians must study the word of God. You cannot grow in the things of the Lord without the knowledge. Don’t be lazy to study the bible. It is important to know the word of God.

The bible says seek ye first the kingdom of God and the rest shall be added unto you. When the bible says the rest He (God) means the rest, including that one particular problem that you have in your life, it is part of the rest.

TODAY’S MESSAGE:

Scripture reading: 2 Kings 4: 8-17 “8 Now it happened one day that Elisha went to Shunem, where there was a notable woman, and she persuaded him to eat some food. So it was, as often as he passed by, he would turn in there to eat some food. 9 And she said to her husband, “Look now, I know that this is a holy man of God, who passes by us regularly. 10 Please, let us make a small upper room on the wall; and let us put a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lampstand; so it will be, whenever he comes to us, he can turn in there.” 11 And it happened one day that he came there, and he turned in to the upper room and lay down there. 12 Then he said to Gehazi his servant, “Call this Shunammite woman.” When he had called her, she stood before him. 13 And he said to him, “Say now to her, ‘Look, you have been concerned for us with all this care. What can I do for you? Do you want me to speak on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?'” She answered, “I dwell among my own people.” 14 So he said, “What then is to be done for her?” And Gehazi answered, “Actually, she has no son, and her husband is old.” 15 So he said, “Call her.” When he had called her, she stood in the doorway. 16 Then he said, “About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!” 17 But the woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which Elisha had told her.” 2 Kings 4:8-17, NKJV.

On Wednesday we heard about the annointed man of God Elijah. I will now speak about Elisha. Elisha was trained well by Elijah. Elisha was given double portion of what Elijah had. He received a double portion of Elijah’s annointing but he started by serving under Elijah. Elijah wanted to stop him but Elisha refused to turn back. In his mind Elisha thought that Elijah was going to another village or to another country.

Elijah says to Elisha “You don’t understand I am going” but Elisha says “I am going with you!” What do you get from this scripture? Then Elijah left and Elisha was surprised “This man is going, let me grab him, I thought he is going abroad, I was not aware that he is leaving.” The bible says he held a piece of the garment of Elijah. I guess after Elijah was gone, Elisha held the piece of the garment and now thought “But Elijah you did not impart any annointing to me.” He was not aware that what was in his hand was double portion.

People like to be imparted too much. Elijah did not put his hand on Elisha. Elijah did not know that a part of his garment would fall down. Maybe when he arrived in heaven he asked “Where is the piece of my garment?” that is how God works.

Elisha was a man of God moving from one village to the next and one day he arrived at a house of a rich woman. She was busy sweeping and her eyes saw the man of God passing. The bible says everyday Elisha would pass by her gate going to the king’s palace. Day after day she would look at him passing. One day when she looked at him the lighting of God struck her and said “There is something in that man.”

She decided to go to her husband “Have you seen this man? He looks hungry, why can’t we invite him to our home and give him food?” I guess the husband must have been furious: “Oh, now you want your concubine to come our house?” the man was jealous. She pleaded with the husband “Oh, it is your boy friend? Now you want to bring him here right into our house?”

Finally the husband agreed and they would feed him. I guess after the fourth day the woman again went to her husband and said “Why can’t we build a small room for the man of God and put some furniture for him?” Now you are going too far, you want your boyfriend to come here so that you can jump and go to him?

The husband did allow her request and they built an upper room for him.

The man of God would come and sleep there, eat there, rest there etc. One day before he left he thought “I have been taken care of properly; I can’t just leave this house.”

2 Kings 4:133 And he said to him, “Say now to her, ‘Look, you have been concerned for us with all this care. What can I do for you? Do you want me to speak on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?'” She answered, “I dwell among my own people.”” 2 Kings 4:13, NKJV.

There is a lot of people who have no concern they don’t care about the church or the people in the church. They have no concern as to whether the pastor ate or not, or if he has clothes, or a car etc but this woman had a concern about the man of God. “The man of God cannot suffer when I have everything. The man of God cannot walk on foot when I have everything.” This is because she had a concern for the man of God .

Do you have a concern for your pastor? Other people don’t care. Whether the pastor comes to church with one suit etc. Here is the Shunammite woman who did not know Elisha but was concerned about the man of God. What about you who knows the pastor?

During the week we spoke about Elijah who was told by the woman “There is no food in the house.” and he said “Cook, Let me eat first.”

Let your pastor eat first before you can eat. That is why you are poor. You eat first before your pastor.

Elijah did not mind that the meal was the last one, or that it was little. The woman said “After we cook this little meal tonight; we will eat it and die.”

The woman says “Elijah I can give you water but not this little meal. After cooking this meal today, me and my son will eat it and then die.” To her it was a very powerful statement but listen to the answer: “I understand but ‘Let me eat first.’” Can your pastor eat first: with that last penny in your account, with that last something in your life?

Do you have a concern about your pastor? You know him. You disturb his or her when he or she is sleeping or do you only know him when you are in trouble? Do you know him only when your child is sick, when you are in debt etc?

The Shunammite woman had a concern and after observing Elijah for a few days acted. In her house the man of God was eating food with seven colours. Maybe when he was going to the king’s palace he was only eating bread and water. God says “My servant cannot suffer. There is a woman who has money, I will make provision for my servant.”

The bible does not say that Elisha went to the woman. The Holy Spirit touched her and she went to him and said “Come, there is food in the house.”

Even if you make your pastor hungry God will provide for him.

We heard that God provided for Elijah by sending ravens to take food to him. God did not send people. God felt that people were too greedy and he decided to act. The bible says “I will never forsake you nor leave you. People can leave you or forsake you but not Me.”

Elijah speaks to his servant Gehazi “Don’t you see the concern of this woman for us? Don’t you see how she is taking such good care of us? We are sleeping on very good beds, namely Seally Posturepedic beds. In the king’s palace we were sleeping on the mat. We just can’t leave. We have no money with us, what can we do for her?”

If you don’t care for your pastor, you are causing a problem for yourself. He says Gehazi “This woman has money, she has everything. Maybe we can recommend her to the chief.” They thought that was a powerful solution for her life  and when they spoke to her, she says to “Even the chief gets a salary from me.” Eish! They must have been very disappointed.

Fortunately Gehazi knew the situation, that the Shunammite woman was a barren woman. “Man of God I think her problem is having no child.” Elisha says “That one is very simple. Go and call her again” and she came. Elisha looked at her, “I understand your problem is not having a child. Don’t worry I carry a lot of children in me, by next year this time you will be carrying a son.”

The woman was surprised “Man of God don’t play with me. My husband is very old and can’t produce children anymore.” Elisha stood by his word. “Whether or not your husband produces or not, you will have child. Next year this time you will be carrying a son.”

What a powerful prophesy! He was prophesying on a full stomach. Your pastor cannot prophesy whilst being hungry. Provoke your pastor. Make him or her to eat full, make him to drive a luxury car, to wear expensive clothes, he will prophesy into your life and what he says shall come to pass. This will make his faith strong. Don’t make him doubt the God he is serving.

You church members make the pastor not to pray for you but to pray for his problems. Nowadays pastors deviate from their calling by God because they are hungry. Every day he gets into his room he is praying for his problem. When is he going to pray for you?

Under normal circumstances he is not supposed to pray for himself but for the flock of the Lord under his care.

One day in 2006 I was preaching in a church in Hamanskraal. Most of the members in that church were members of parliament. It was a very big church full of expensive cars in the parking lot. I arrived earlier than the pastor and it was raining. I was expecting the pastor to come in a very big car but he finally arrived in a bicycle wearing a rain suit and he had his bibles covered in a plastic bag. I was spiritually furious and that changed my message. I decided not to preach the message I had thought I would preach that day.

I preached about offerings and told them “As long as your pastor is driving a bicycle, there will be no blessings in your life. You stay in big houses, drive a luxury cars and you expect God to bless you?” I said “No ways”.

I told them I will not conduct any deliverance session and that I will only deliver them from stinginess spirit and they ran to come to the front. The MEC for transport and the minister of housing also came to the altar. I asked them one by one “How much does your house cost?” and they said “R7 mil”, “R3 mil” etc How much does your car cost?” They responded “R500.000”, another one “R600, 000.00” etc

I said to the pastor, “How much is your house?”Nothing, it is a shack.” the car, “I have no car, I use a bicycle”. These people drove all the way to come and receive blessings but have no concern for their pastor.

One of them wrote a cheque of R600, 000, stood up and gave it to the pastor and another one stood up and gave the pastor about R200, 000 cash. Another one wrote a cheque of R1 mil and something.

The one came and said to me “Pastor, this pastor has never preached about offerings. Not for a single day.” I told them, “It is not his responsibility. His responsibility is to feed you the word of God. The problem is that nowadays, if a pastor preaches about money people run away from the church. It is your responsibility to take care or your pastor.” and they said “Pastor, really we are sorry.

That day the pastor received around R3 million.

That woman was rich but could not buy a child but somebody was walking every day with her child and passing by her gate.

Who is walking with your solution? I don’t know if there was something moving in that woman every time Elisha passed. I wonder what was special about him, obviously a lot of men passed by her gate but she chose and picked Elisha.

Who is passing by with your solution? Do you have a concern for that person? The only thing people do is to greet her. Elisha was passing every day with her son.

Our God is a god of miracles.

Pastor even if they don’t care for you, God knows and will take care of you. The problem is that that church will be cursed. Have you seen a pastor becoming a curse in the church because of the people who don’t care?

God says “With men it is impossible but with Me it is possible” and He says I want to prove to you, that a child comes from me.

The problem is that people don’t know who is carrying their child. Ask God “Who is carrying my son?” Further, Christians curse themselves. When a Christian wants to give the devil will come and say “Why are you making the pastor rich? can’t you see you are spoiling his or her?

Elijah said “Let me eat first.” After Elijah ate first, that meal lasted until the next rain came. The problem is that you can’t mock God.

I guess after she was pregnant she was having inner conflict “Why couldn’t I have identified this man of God a long time ago. Maybe by now I would have 6 children.”

Yes you have money but you can’t buy children, you can’t buy your life. As we speak how many people are in the ICU having a lot of money in their bank accounts? Why can’t he write a cheque and buy his life back?

Let me eat first.” Let your pastor eat first and then you can receive the blessings.

Money can be a stumbling block in your life. If you want to be wise, take your money to church to serve the church and the servants of God and you will see God in your life.

On Wednesday I told you about one of our daughters in our church who invited me to her wedding and I had no suit to put on for the wedding. I can’t not go to a wedding because I don’t have a suit.

A number of factors make people poor. I am not speaking of the poverty of money. There is only one Healer, He is seating on the throne and He speaks through His word. Blessed is the one who gives. That is why that woman was blessed, because she gave.

If you want to move God in heaven give something that will make you feel pain. God likes the best of your best. That is what God wants and after you give it to Him, you must sleep with pain of losing that thing.

God slept with pain after He gave His only begotten son but He chose to surrender it anyways. Why don’t you choose to surrender? If God surrendered why don’t you surrender?

How many years did Abraham pray for a son but in the blink of an eye God says “I want your only son”. Abraham did not say “God, How long have I prayed for this son?”

Take your son I want to meet you in Moriah with him and I want you to slaughter him for me.” Abraham did not hesitate. “Why are you hesitating?”

He never had a meeting with his wife. This is because the assignment was in him. Do you think God didn’t know that Abraham had a wife? When he wanted the son he did not go to wife. The same God who made the wife pregnant and to carry the child for 9 months spoke directly to Abraham. Why do you refuse with the things that God borrowed you?

God has borrowed you that money in your bag, why do you refuse with it?

Isaac asked an innocent question: “Daddy, what is the sacrifice?” They went to the mountain and when they reached there the father, now bound him “Daddy do you really want to kill me”God will provide.” I am sure that the boy said something. I don’t think he could just have kept quiet and watched his father binding him. Abraham persisted and said nothing and with power took the sword and when he was about to swing it the angel stopped him and said “Abraham you have struggled long enough to get this son, don’t hurt this boy, what I wanted from you was your faith.

He put away his sword, and then saw the lamb. The Lord of lords says, “Abraham slaughter the lamb, I will be pleased with it.”

Imagine if Abraham had slaughtered the child, what would he have told the wife? Do you know women when it comes to their children? Maybe he would not have gone home.

Not all problems need the laying on of hands, some need you to act. God can lay something in your heart because He wants you to release something into your life.

When God said “I love a cheerful giver, He means it”. If you give with a cheerful heart He will not let you suffer.

If you love someone, you cannot let that person suffer pain. If you give cheerfully, you will reap cheerfully and God will reward you cheerfully and He will never be pressurized by anybody. He will just give you because you are a cheerful giver.
